Happy Guacamole Day! Wholly Guacamole & Salsa Giveaway Celebration!

September 16, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 219 Comments

Today, Semptember 16, is National Guacamole Day! And what a perfect time to hold a giveaway for my favorite guacamole and salsa made by Eat Wholly.

I recently received a cooler on my doorstep and was thrilled to find Eat Wholly guacamole and salsas inside. I had been wanting to try the new salsas and have been in love with the guac for years.

I still remember the first time that I had guacamole. It was years ago in a small Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. They made the guacamole at the table with fresh ingredients and I was hooked. Since then, I have made my own, had it in other places, and tried to find something comparable, but the only one that tastes as good as homemade is Wholly Guacamole. It’s really the only one for me.

And now, how fun to try the new salsas! I loved them. Along with the Classic Mild, Medium and Hot, they have come up with some amazing new flavors: Wholly Salsa Pineapple, Red Pepper Mango, Roasted Tomato, Avocado Verde,  and Guacamole & Spicy Pico.

I really can’t recommend these salsas highly enough. Aside from my own, they are the best I’ve had.

My favorites are the Guac & Spicy Pico – the combination of the classic guac with the chunky, pico de gallo salsa is my new favorite.

I also love the Avocado Verde, based on a traditional Mexican green sauce with tomatillo and salsa verde – very rich avocado flavor with a bite.

The Red Pepper Mango with spicy red peppers and sweet orange mangos was unlike any other salsa, fruity, not too spicy or sweet, and a great pick-me-up with other dishes.

Speaking of other dishes, although these are amazing dips, salsa is not just for chips any more!

When I crave a snack during the day, you will often find me with my carrot and celery sticks experimenting with the different flavors.

The Guac and Spicy Pico is outstanding with breakfast eggs, breakfast burritos, and I love it on my burgers.

The Avocado Verde makes an awesome salad dressing and is great with Pasta and Chicken.

I love the Red Pepper Mango as a base for spaghetti sauce, to spice up a fruit salad, and it’s also amazing on grilled salmon.

Really, the only limit is your imagination!

The snack pack guacamoles are my favorites, but there are so many options including homestyle, classic and spicy. A new addition to the family is the Wholly Avocado Chunky Dip.

This is 100% pure, unaltered avocado that is ready anytime you need it or crave it. Sometimes you buy avocados and they are underripe or overripe, but with this wonderful package, you’ll never have to worry about having fresh avocados that are perfect on hand. Wholesome and delicious, these will stay good in your freezer for up to 3 months.

I try to always have Wholly treats on hand and they taste just as good whether I just bought them or they’ve been in my freezer. I can’t imagine a turkey sandwich without Wholly Guac.

So, Happy Guacamole Day, one and all. This is one of my favorite holidays!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of My Well-Being Powered by Humana for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Lately I’ve been contemplating “well-being”. Well being is physical and mental, naturally; however, there is so much more to it.

Being connected to friends, family and having a sense of community — that’s definitely well-being. I have experienced this personally recently. When I am cut off, for various reasons, my well-being suffers.

Also, what about not having to worry all the time how you will pay your next bill, having a sense of financial independence and confidence. What about having a career you love that supports you and your family, having savings for those unexpected curve balls life likes to throw you.

And, then, of course, there is play. This is so enriching whether it’s painting, going to a movie, getting a massage, traveling to one of your favorite destinations, learning something new, or being silly with a good friend. This can really give you a boost.

After all, there is a mind-body connection and we are multidimensional human beings – emotionally, physically, mentally and so much more.

What is your personal sense of well-being is as individual and complex as you are. This is why I’ve enjoyed discovering  My Well-Being Powered by Humana. There is so much to explore here with content tailored just for you, great and interesting articles and tips as well as videos. You can create your own personal website geared to your own health. You can also save your favorite content and share it with others.

When you become a member at My Well-Being, you immediately get a FREE Dummies book.  I chose Well-Being for Dummies and there are two other choices as well. I love this book and have already found some great tips. It’s super easy to read and assimilate.

After that, you can get a free Well-Being Assessment. Check it out today and get the tools that will help you improve your health and wellness tomorrow.

I really enjoyed the Online games and My Well-Being Polls. There are some fun games such as Memory Matrix and Speed Match to help flex your mental muscles.

I’ve already read quite a few articles that have been very helpful and interesting such as “Fun Ways to Exercise to Forget You’re Working Out”, “What Is My Biggest Inspiration” and watched a cool video on “How To Feed Your Family Superfoods”.

Check out this interesting video:
About MyWell-Being from mywell-being on Vimeo.

I know that My Well-Being is the perfect site for me, one I can customize and come back to time and time again to improve my happiness and my well-being.

I encourage you to take a look and see how it can help you to live a fuller, healthier, happier life.

Win a Back to School Backpack and new Honey Maid Grahamful snacks!

September 1, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 138 Comments

Welcome to the Too Cool For School Giveaway Hop hosted by BloggerPR! Summer is ending which means it’s time to send the kids back to school. Parents are scrambling to refill their school supplies collection and get everything they need, so BloggerPR decided to host a giveaway hop to help everyone win some of those back to school necessities!  This event will run from September 1st through 9th, which gives you time to hop down the linky list below! Each blogger is giving away prizes valued $20 or more, so you don’t want to miss out! Good luck and a great school year to all!

For my giveaway prize, I am giving away a Honey Maid backpack and 3 boxes of the new delicious Honey Maid Grahamfuls!

These new snacks from Nabisco are different and delicious and perfect for back-to-school lunches or after school snacks. To be honest, they’re great anytime!

They’re made with 100% whole grain Honey Maid graham crackers and contain real honey. But, best of all, Honey Maid Grahamfuls do NOT contain any high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors, so they are a snack you can feel good about.

They come in three delicious varieties, each with its own delicious filling: Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter & Chocolate and Banana Vanilla Crème. You get eight individually-wrapped pouches per box to keep them fresh and easy to slip into a backpack or lunch. They’re great for students to keep them going throughout the day and a great pick me up for parents with a cup of tea or coffee. They’re really tasty.

Graham crackers are so perfect in and of themselves, that I didn’t know you could really improve upon the taste but Honey Maid has found a way.

The Peanut Butter flavor is great for all the peanut butter afficionados out there, however I have to admit I loved the Peanut Butter & Chocolate a bit more. It had a richer more interesting flavor and, of course, if you read my blog, you know I love chocolate! My favorite, however, was the Banana Vanilla Crème. It had a very subtle and light banana cream flavor and I adore bananas! These are so good!

And now, one of my readers will have the chance to win a Honey Maid back-to-school backpack and a box of each flavor of the new Honey Maid Grahamfuls. Fill up your backpack with notebooks, pencils, pens and a calculator, but don’t forget the Honey Maid Grahamfuls. When you want a delicious snack, they are super convenient and really delicious, a new twist on an old favorite.

Honey Maid Grahamfuls are available at local grocery or superstores in the cookie and cracker aisle.

Disclosure: I was provided samples in order to facilitate my review, but all opinions herein are exclusively my own.

Campus Book Rentals for Back to School Savings

August 30, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 29 Comments

I wish I had Campus Book Rentals when I was in college. Textbooks were one of my biggest expenses and often never got looked at after the semester was over.

Are you or your kids headed to College this Fall? Here are some perks from Campus Book Rentals:

You can save a whopping 40-90% off of bookstore prices.
You get free shipping both ways so it really couldn’t be easier or cheaper (You get a prepaid return envelope).
They have flexible renting periods and awesome customer service.
You can highlight in the textbooks! (Yes, you can underline, make notes, whatever you like!)

And, another great benefit is that with each textbook rented, the company makes a donation to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a wonderful organization that performs life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise pay for it. The long term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is incredible.

I wanted to see some of the great savings for myself so I looked up Literature textbooks and found:

Literature : An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing by Kennedy and Gioia.

It’s $15.57 for the semester but sells for $88.11 at Amazon and the list price is $112.80.

This would surely save you money that I know you could find good use for! After all, college is about learning but it was also one of the most enjoyable times of my life.
