pampersnewlogo

This is a sponsored post with iConnect and Pampers.  All opinions are 100% mine.

As a parent, I know you worry about things like having enough money for everything you need and how fast your children go through diapers. Pampers wants to help with two ways to save this April and put some money back in your pocket.

First of all, Pampers is offering big savings in this Sunday’s paper (April 10!)

pampersinsertcoupon

Get your scissors ready because there will be two high value coupon offers  to help make potty training easier and more affordable. Keep an eye out for an insert from P&G in Sunday’s paper featuring Pampers Easy Ups Training Pants and Pampers UnderJams Absorbent Night Wear.

You can use these coupons at any mass, discount or grocery stores where baby care products are sold.

Second, Pampers is offering a valuable coupon that you can print at home for $2 off 1 pack of Pampers Easy Ups Training Pants.

How To Use This Coupon:

Just clip the Pampers Easy Ups coupon you will find at: http://www.coupons.com/brands/pampers-coupons/. You will need to open a coupons.com account if you don’t already have one. Then you can print, shop, and save!

If you use Pampers, you will know why we love them and why they are such a great choice for your children. If not, this is a great time to try them.

Why Pampers Rock

Gwen Stefani – This Is What The Truth Feels Like

April 1, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 17 Comments

Gwen Stefani Press Shot 1
buzzoole code
You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens – Rumi

Gwen Stefani is most definitely a pop icon. A singer and songwriter since childhood, she has sold close to 30 million records as the front woman for the band, No Doubt, and as a multi-platinum solo artist.

As co-founder and lead vocalist of the ska band, No Doubt, Gwen’s gifted songwriting and moving lyrics included such number one hits as “Don’t Speak”, “Just a Girl”, “Hey Baby”, and “Underneath It All”. While No Doubt was on hiatus, Gwen began a solo career in 2004 with her debut studio album, Love.Angel.Music.Baby.

Very successful, it was inspired by ’80’s pop and included “What You Waiting For?”,”Rich Girl”, and the number one single “Hollaback Girl” which became the first US digital download to sell over one million copies.

Gwen’s second multi-platinum solo endeavor,The Sweet Escape, was released in 2006 and featured the hit single of the same name.

Her third solo album, This is What the Truth Feels Like was recently released on March 18, 2016.

gwenstefanialbumcover
In 2000, Rolling Stone magazine named Stefani “The Queen of Confessional Pop.” and I find that a very fitting description for this new album, her most personal work to date.

This new album combines catchy pop melodies with the emotional themes of love and loss that we can all relate to.

It is a truly gifted singer/songwriter who can weave the themes of her life into songs that entertain us while touching our hearts such as “Make Me Like You”, “Misery”, “Truth” and “Used To Love You”.

My two favorites are polar opposites, one about a breakup and the other about newfound love.
“Used To Love You” starts with a quiet sadness and a gorgeous chorus:

Suitcase, band-aids
Pulling back out the driveway
You go, I’ll stay
You can keep all the memories,

but, as it continues, like an anthem of strength and resolve, the choir and music soar as Gwen puts this relationship in the past, stressing  that she “used” to love her ex, and encouraging him to take a look at what he lost.

And, like the proverbial phoenix, rising from the ashes, she finds herself once again, her heart now broken open, open to possibility.

Just when she least expects it, as it so often happens, new love finds her and she celebrates this mysterious, somewhat scary beginning in “Make Me Like You”. It’s light, fun and exhilarating as she takes a leap of faith and love.

Gwen has said that this album is her most intimate and personal.
It’s real.
Honest.
And ultimately, joyful.

Improving Health and Wellness in the Workplace

March 20, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 14 Comments

happy young businessman on spring field

A lot of us are concerned with health and wellness at home, but, it is just as important to maintain our wellbeing at work to enjoy a balanced life.

The workplace can be challenging with demanding schedules and often limited options, but, if, we can find ways to implement exercise, healthy eating and decreased stress, we can increase our overall happiness and productivity.

Did you know that studies have shown that good eating habits help increase our attention span, improve memory and boost well-being? Here are some ways that companies can help out.

Stock vending machines with healthy choices like natural snacks including protein bars, trail mix, iced herbal tea and juice drinks. Try to add a bowl of fresh fruit to lunch areas and, if you have a cafeteria, make sure there are healthy meal options. For meetings, order healthy lunches in and serve veggie platters instead of donuts.

Avoiding a sedentary lifestyle and encouraging physical activity can also positively impact our health and productivity.

Companies can offer safe, well-covered bike parking to encourage commuting via bicycle. They can also have a fleet of bikes that employees can use during breaks or for errands. Not only will you help yourself by not driving, but you will also reduce your carbon footprint and help out the environment.

Companies may also offer discounts or subsidize memberships to local gyms. If possible, the company may have their own exercise facilities. Having showers at work is also helpful for those who bike in or work out during lunch.

bike2work

Sports teams are also a fun option to get employees exercising and involved.

Another great idea is having ergonomic work stations and ones that allow standing as well as sitting.

But what about mental stress? Stress has been linked to heart disease, insomina, migraines and more, and, at work inefficiency, absences and dissatisfaction. A great idea is to have health or life coaching, and assistance or classes for healthy cooking, yoga, smoking cessation and weight loss.

yoga

Forward thinking companies can also incorporate stress breaks and meditation coaching.

Ultimately, work and home life do not have to be completely separate entities. We can incorporate good habits into the entirety of our life – creating wholeness, balance, and overall wellbeing.

Catch the moving “He Named Me Malala” Monday 2/29 and a Giveaway

February 28, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 6 Comments

On Monday, February 29, at 8pm est/7pm central, you can catch the moving documentary “He Named Me Malala” on its TV premiere on the National Geographic Channel.

I remember the first time I saw Malala on TV and heard her story. Her words truly moved me as well as her beauty and grace. Once a target of the Taliban, Malala’s bravery shines through, and, as the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, she is now a leading advocate for children’s rights and girl’s education.

malala

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
HE NAMED ME MALALA is an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then 15-year-old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman) shows us how Malala, her father Zia and her family are committed to fighting for education for all girls worldwide. The film gives us an inside glimpse into this extraordinary young girl’s life – from her close relationship with her father who inspired her love for education, to her impassioned speeches at the UN, to her everyday life with her parents and brothers.

I’m also pleased to be able to offer a giveaway for my readers.

For Your Heart! Nordic Naturals, The Mediterranean Diet and a Wellness Giveaway!

February 15, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 23 Comments

February is National Heart Health Month.

snow-nature-bush-winter-medium

Did you know that more than 610,000 people die each year in the United States alone from heart disease. That’s one in every four deaths, making it the leading cause of death in both men and women. It’s no surprise that the American Heart Association recommends that we eat fish two times per week to try and support our overall cardiovascular function and reduce the incidence of heart disease. Thousands of clinical studies have shown that an increased intake of EPA and DHA – the omega-3 essential fatty acids which are naturally found in fish and fish oil – have many cardiovascular benefits.

Support for the heart-health benefits of Omega-3’s is so strong that health policy makers worldwide – including the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization – agree that EPA and DHA help maintain heart health and prevent heart disease.

Both of my parents have had heart disease and it has been difficult to see them suffer from the effects. I try to be as diligent and aware as possible and am always looking for ways to help promote heart health for myself and those I love.

Now for some good news! Heart disease can often be prevented and helped when we make healthier choices in diet and lifestyle.

As a holistic health therapist, I was always searching for the purest, highest quality products since what we take in is so crucial to our overall health and wellbeing. I began using Nordic Naturals over 8 years ago, especially the Omegas. I had gotten mono in college and later on chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. I really wanted something that would help my immune system and my joints, as well as be anti-inflammatory and helpful for heart and brain function. I’m a big proponent of Omega Oils to help maintain good health.

hp_banner_20thAnniversary

Omega-3’s are part of every cell in our body, including the brain. They help with attention, memory and a balanced nervous system. I personally buy Nordic Naturals Omega-3 supplements because I feel they are the purest and most effective. I love that they take such great care with their products and have wonderful options for both children and adults.

The #1 Fish Oil Company in the US, Nordic Naturals is committed to delivering the world’s safest, most effective omega oils to help provide the essentials of an extraordinary life. They understand the importance of combining fish oil supplementation with a heart-healthy diet rich in nutrient dense food, such as the Mediterranean diet along with an active lifestyle to support our heart health.

They are also very environmentally responsible using sustainable fishing practices and having great corporate social responsibility. Nordic Naturals also supports organizations that make our planet a healthier place.

IMG_8692

For the past month, I’ve been taking Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega 2X as well as their CoQ10 Ubiquinol and reading The Complete Mediterranean Diet by Dr Michael Ozner.ultimateomega2xbottleubiquinol nn

The Omega 2X features Nordic Naturals highest concentration triglyceride form omega-3 oil in a soft gel that delivers 1000mg EPA+DHA which provides wonderful heart, brain and immune health support.

I can tell you that I notice a strong difference when I take them and when I forget to take them. If the body is like a machine, then the Omegas are the oil that helps it run smoothly. It has helped me personally with focus, energy, joint pain, and even stomach issues. I do highly recommend them.

The COQ10 Ubiquinol provides antioxidant support, supports cellular energy production, helps neutralize free radicals, and promotes cardiovascular health as well.

The Complete Mediterranean Diet by Dr Michael Ozner

mediterranean

A quick anecdote. After college, I traveled quite a bit and I lived on the Greek Island, Alonissos, for over a month. I would have loved to have stayed longer! I felt so whole in body, mind, and spirit. A lot of this had to do with diet and lifestyle. And, I noticed that the residents there lived their lives differently than many of my American compatriots.

They laughed more; they spent more time in the moment. Instead of rushing from one place to another, instead of grabbing a burger and fries and eating it on the way to a meeting, they took a long lunch break. Workers sat together at tables with large bowls of cucumber and tomato salads topped with feta, fresh fish, fruits and vegetables. Often there was red wine. To me, they didn’t seem too concerned with the ‘small stuff’.

In The Complete Mediterranean Diet, Dr Ozner, a top cardiologist talks about this type of lifestyle versus the classic American one and how you can improve your heart health and reduce your risk of other diseases as well. The book is easy to read and ‘digest’. The diet is absolutely delicious, not a ‘deprivation’ diet by any means and is simple to follow. There are over 500 easy to make classic and delightul Mediterranean recipes. I am working my way through!

Some examples are: Grilled Citrus Salmon with Garlic Greens, Pizza Margherita, Roasted Baby Artichokes with Parmesan Cheese, Toasted Crepe Cups with Fresh Berries in a Lemon Yogurt Sauce. Sign me up!

So, you see, the road to a healthier lifestyle does not have to be painful. There are a lot of wonderful tips in the book that will get you started on a common sense path.

With the Mediterranean Diet and my Nordic Naturals, I’m feeling supported, especially regarding my heart. I worry sometimes about my future health, but, taking the steps to wellness not only makes me feel healthy in body, but also calms my fears.

If you would like to win a wonderful wellness package featuring the products mentioned in this post, just enter via Giveaway Tools below.
