Ways to Spice up Your Date Night – and a Novel Erotics Giveaway

September 4, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 13 Comments

This review and giveaway were made possible by iConnect Influencer Management and Novel Erotics. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, however, all opinions are 100% my own.

IMG_0958

Remember how exciting those first days of dating were, the rush of adrenaline and sense of adventure? Over time, that feeling can get eclipsed by car payments, mortgages, kids’ homework, making dinners and doing mountains of laundry.

So what’s a couple to do?

There are many ways to spice up your love life whether you are married or have been in a committed relationship for a while.

Set aside date nights that are just for the two of you. Make time. A relationship is a growing entity that needs nurturing and renewal. Sensuality contributes to general wellbeing, feeling attractive and confident.

You can go out for your favorite dinner or order in. Choose something you don’t eat every day, whether it be your favorite Thai soup or steak and crab legs.

IMG_1073

Don’t underestimate the power of darkness. It heightens all your other senses. So, take advantage of that with a blindfold or lights out. Use aromatherapy and oil and really enjoy sharing massages, whether giving or receiving. If you’re giving, feel your partner’s skin on your fingertips. If you’re receiving, really feel their fingertips on your skin. Take your time and just be in the moment.

Certain foods are aphrodisiacs: basil, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, avocados, chili peppers, honey, coconut water, asparagus, chocolate, red wine, pomegranates. Try these alone or combine a few. Spiced chai is a good choice!

Personally, I love red wine with chocolates. IMG_0889

Have some tiramisu or sorbet and lick it off your partner’s warm skin. If you enjoy wine, a glass will help you relax without putting you to sleep.

If your partner is out or working during the day, text them evocative messages that will spark their interest or slip a love note in a pocket or purse.

Another great idea is a gift from Novel Erotics. Novel Erotics was founded in 2015, after observing the fascination with the 50 Shades of Grey Series. Based in the New Orleans metro area, they know about having fun, so they had some great ideas for introducing novices to some interesting products and fantasies. Being parents themselves, they also know it can be hard to hide erotic items from ‘inquisitive eyes’.

With all this in mind, they designed a discreet, book-style storage box, each with a spicy story on the inside cover, and 5-6 items to make the fantasy your own. Themes range from Hotel Affairs to a creative twist on Teatime. There is also “Something Blue” – a box which is a fun, classy gift for the bachelorette.

Novel-Erotics_Stacked (1)Novel Erotics sent me one of their bestsellers, The Rendezvous. The story inside the front cover will get your imagination going, and there are lots of fun treats inside including two sex toys. There is also a soft black and lilac blindfold and an Earthly Body ‘Naked In the Woods’ Massage Candle.candle-nakedwoods_NEW-324e4i5xhqw3uakqrftix6

Specially formulated to melt at just three degrees above body temperature, this candle with six natural oils is perfect for soft sensual massage.

Give Your Bedroom A Makeover with Groupon!

August 28, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 2 Comments

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love decorating my home, but it’s not so easy when I’m also balancing the budget. Sometimes it feels like a juggling act. I’ve noticed that just one or two strategically placed items can make a world of difference, whether it’s a new blender for the kitchen or a fun clock for the family room. Lately, when I’m browsing for home decor, I explore Groupon Goods.

Groupon is wonderful for events, services, and restaurants, but they also have wonderful deals on products from my favorite retailers. It’s fast, fun, and free.

Since my bedroom is my sanctuary, it’s one of my favorite places to renovate. I was able to find an Ultra Soft Sherpa Throw for Fall to snuggle up in when I find time to relax at night with a good suspense thriller. Best of all, it was half the price I’d seen it at! I’m adding some Banksy Art Decorative Throw Pillows. They have tons to choose from.

PEPPERMINT EUCALYPTUS SOOTHING BATH SALTS: Soak Your Cares Away

August 27, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 20 Comments

homemadebathsalts
If you’re anything like me, you strive to live life to the fullest. Whether we completely understand all its inherent mystery, life is a thrilling adventure.

So many of us work hard, whether it is taking care of our families, in our jobs, doing charity work, athletic pursuits and so much more. With our New England winters, I find that I am outdoors more in summer and more active and that sometimes means sore muscles and a bit of general overwhelm.

My sanctuary lately has been my bathtub! Part of it is just setting aside ‘me time’ and knowing that everyone else is taken care of so I can truly relax and unplug – and then there are the oils!

Essential oils have truly transformed my bath into a spalike experience at home. Making my own bath salts is so economical and I get to experiment and choose the combination that best fits my needs and desires in the moment.

Last holiday season, I made scrubs and bath salts for my friends as gifts and I’d love to show you my recipe because it’s really quite easy and fun!

Bath salts soothe the mind, body and spirit and are wonderful for pampering. I remember when I was younger, my Dad would advise going swimming in salt water for small scrapes. Truth be told, it really did make my cuts heal faster!

I’m going to show you the recipe for one jar of salts, but, you can easily multiply the ingredients depending on your needs or wishes. I use Epsom salts (rich in Magnesium), Pink Himalayan Salts and Essential Oils. Feel free to use Dead Sea Salts instead of Pink Himalayan. Since I don’t like any artificial colors, fragrances or ingredients,  I love the color that the Pink adds naturally!

IMG_0594IMG_0627

PEPPERMINT EUCALYPTUS SOOTHING SALTS

1/2 cup Epsom Salts

1/2 cup Pink Himalayan Salts

8-10 drops Earth Elements Peppermint Essential Oil

8-10 drops Earth Elements Eucalyptus Essential Oil

IMG_0685

I start by combining the salts in a bowl and adding my oils. You can then use a whisk, spoon or even fork to make sure the ingredients are all mixed in.

IMG_0775Since I have the Pink Salts, it is already a beautiful natural color. I then place them in an

airtight glass jar with a hand-made label or tie and voila! Perfect for your sink or tub or as a gift!

PS: Your guy will love these too as a bath or foot soak after a long day!

IMG_0668

Other Suggestions

IMG_0686

Customize your mixture according to your preferences.

For a soothing bath use chamomile and lavender.

Peppermint is invigorating while rosemary and eucalyptus can help tonify and balance.

Grapefruit is rejuvenating and uplifting.

Mix and match to your heart’s desire! Add some dried mint if you have any around!

You can also layer the salts with different colors or make different colored jars. I recommend only using natural coloring though because whatever you put on your skin goes into your body.

Here are some natural ideas for colors. You simply blend or juice them (or with the red cabbage boil it,) then reduce the juice in a pan. Add just a hint of color when you mix or whisk your salts.

Color Ideas

For Red: Beet or Pomegranate juice, Fresh or frozen raspberry juice

For Yellow: ground turmeric or saffron, mango juice

For Green: matcha powder or parsley juice

For Orange: carrot juice, paprika

For Purple/Blue: red cabbage juice, frozen blueberry juice, blackberries

For Brown: coffee powder, cocoa

Feel free to add dried flowers or herbs to your blends, but, make sure they are organic, pure or from your own garden. Also, you want the flowers/herbs to be fully dried adding no moisture.

Consult your physician before using essential oils if you have high blood pressure, are pregnant, or have other medical concerns. Not for use for babies or young children.

Enhance Your Life with Aromatherapy

August 25, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein

This post has been sponsored by  Nature’s Bounty® Earthly Elements™. I have been compensated by Nature’s Bounty and been provided the products discussed for review.

a1 - 1

It’s summer and I’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors in nature, enjoying all the wonderful sights and smells. I also love bringing the experience indoors with aromatherapy.

The sense of smell is evocative, considered to be one of our most primal and fascinating senses. With its subtle complexities, it plays a significant role in our well-being from energizing to relaxing. It is also closely linked with memory. I know that certain scents take me immediately back to my grandmother’s house, others to hiking with friends in the mountains and, some, like warm bread immediately make me feel calm and at ease.

Smells such as smoke or rotten food warn us of danger while others like cinnamon apple pie can make us feel safe and secure.

I have always loved aromatherapy and enjoy experimenting with essential oils. Though I do not enjoy heavy perfumes with synthetic ingredients, I adore essential oils which are plant extracts in their purest forms.

I recently discovered a wonderful new line of 100% pure blended aromatherapy essential oils: Nature’s Bounty Earthly Elements. These oils help me create moods and experiences and each has its own unique aroma and “personality”.

There are 10 essential oils in the collection and one Sweet Almond carrier oil, as well as a Nature’s Bounty Earthly Elements aromatherapy diffuser.

One of my favorites is Grapefruit. I find it uplifting and refreshing. It energizes my mood and gets me focused for the day. Peppermint is also revitalizing and soothing. Lavender is great when I want to unwind and de-stress at the end of the day.

a4 - 1

Other scents in the line include: Chamomile, Patchouli, Jasmine, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus and Thrive.

My favorite ways to use the oils are in a diffuser which gently disperses the oil into my environment, and, by adding a few drops to the almond oil which is a carrier oil, they make massages a spalike experience. Every time I take a bath, I add a few drops depending on what I feel will help balance my mood.

a8 - 1

You can add the oils to your DIY projects and make quality aromatic products. Thrive is perfect for that with its woodsy cleansing aroma. You can use it with warm water in a spray and don’t forget to spray the bottom of the trash can!

I also love spraying Peppermint oil mixed with water to freshen the air naturally! It’s one of my all-time favorite oils. I also use Peppermint Oil with the almond oil for a refreshing post-workout massage. I find it both uplifting and relaxing.

I use a few drops of lemongrass and eucalyptus mixed with the almond oil help repel pesky insects.

When I clean and rinse my fridge, grapefruit oil added to the water really does a great freshening job.

You can create aromatherapy candles, sugar face scrubs and more.  My next post in this series will be sharing some of my own homemade ideas with you.

The full Nature’s Bounty Earthly Elements line can be found in the Vitamin Aisle at Walmart where they are very reasonably priced.

You can also learn more online at Earthlyelements.com.

These oils are not recommended for ingesting, for topical use only when blended with the Sweet Almond carrier oil.

Why I Love #NuCulture Probiotics – It’s a Gut Feeling!

June 24, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 19 Comments

IMG_9813

This post was made possible by iConnect and AlternaScript. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

In life, it’s all about balance — whether we are balancing family and work, balancing mind body and spirit, balancing in the yoga tree pose or balancing our digestive systems.

Our gut is a delicate balance of microorganisms that can be out of balance due to diet, stress, environment and medication. This balance affects our health, mood, and quality of life.

While most of these microorganisms are helpful, when the bad bacteria outnumber the good, we can get unwanted side effects including decreased energy, bloating and digestive issues.

This is where Probiotics or friendly bacteria fit in. To help rebalance the digestive system, supplements like NuCulture by Alternascript reintroduce specific bacteria strains into your gut to crowd out the problematic ones. NuCulture is the new kid on the block, launched on June 6th, 2016. NuCulture also contains prebiotics which are food for the probiotics.

NuCulture is the probiotic of the future, containing 5 probiotic strains, extensively studied clinically and formulated to effective amounts of colony forming units (CFU) per dose. It combines its probiotic strains with powerful prebiotic strains in a patented, delayed-release capsule. Unlike some others, NuCulture survives passing through the acidic environment of the stomach and arrives intact in your GI tract to optimize its effectiveness.

IMG_9785

Recent research has called the gut the “second brain” because it houses over 100 million neurons, more than is found in your spinal cord! These neurons influence neural, immune and endocrine function. In fact, there are over 30 neurotransmitters found in your gut as well. I find that utterly fascinating. No wonder when my stomach is upset, I’m upset! It really casts a pall over all my activities and influences my mood.

I recently tried NuCulture for a few weeks. I am a big proponent of Probiotics and have been for over 10 years. They are a major part of my wellness routine.

566041b5-67a9-46e2-bcc1-176b29e6ee45

The NuCulture capsules are small and easy to swallow. You only need one a day. My experience has been very pleasant. No digestive issues and my tummy which occasionally has a tendency to bloat has been quiet and flat (which is great for summer especially). My energy is consistent throughout the day without any sugar cravings or major ebbs, and I feel a sense of balance overall.  I’ve had no sinus issues and my immune system is strong.

Now, of course, I can’t attribute all of this to NuCulture, but, I do believe that the gut influences the entire ecosystem of the bodymind. I also believe that the occasional digestive issues I’d been having are now calm.

I’m really glad that Probiotics have become so popular. I’ve studied holistic health for many years and was always suggesting them to family and friends, especially when they were taking antibiotics or had stomach issues, gas or nausea.

What I find particularly wonderful about Alternascript, the healthcare company behind NuCulture is their genuine care for the customer. In May 2013, Lucas Siegel and Matthew Piskorz founded the company with one simple purpose: “to specifically design products that actually work and are accessible to everyone.” Lucas and Matthew wanted a change from often overpriced supplements that didn’t work, so they found an alternative — an AlternaScript.

So, would you like to try NuCulture for yourself? NuCulture, along with all AlternaScript products, can only be purchased through a subscription through the AlternaScript website. They do also offer free trials of their products. You can check it out here.

Probiotics are found in yogurt, sauerkraut,  miso soup, kefir and other foods, so you are not introducing anything foreign into your body with Probiotic supplements. They enhance and support the beneficial bacteria that line your digestive system and improve the absorption of essential nutrients in foods optimizing overall health.

I have had no side effects from taking Probiotics, except energy and calm. I love Probiotics and, if I could, I’d shout it to the world.

It’s a gut feeling!

They’re designed to help your baby sleep comfortably, offering up to 12 hours of overnight protection. A good night’s sleep for your child allows baby, mom and dad to wake well-rested and ready to take on the world.

We all need nurturing and support to pursue our hopes and turn them into reality. Love and encouragement from her family led Dana back to the pool. She was committed to getting back in the game after becoming a mom, so that her new son, Arlen, would grow up realizing the importance of hard work. Seeing his mom achieve her dreams as a competitive swimmer would hopefully ignite his own passions!

Dana’s journey to Rio will be shared with all of us! Her goal of winning gold at this year’s Olympics is not just her dream – it’s the dream of her entire family.

Fun New Educational Apps for your Kids Inspire Creative Play! Introducing #DumbWaysJR

June 10, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 21 Comments

This post is sponsored by Dumb Ways JR and The Motherhood, but all opinions herein are mine.

Open-ended play allows our children to discover, to wander, to dream! It is the doorway to the imagination. We can provide the foundation, but also leave the windows open.

The-best-teachers-300x216

Dumb Ways to Die began in 2012 as a public service announcement by Metro Trains in Australia. It was a campaign designed to promote railroad safety, and safety in general. Its inspiration is that people often pay more attention when learning is presented in fun, unique and interesting ways. The PSA video with its insanely catchy theme song soon became an internet sensation through social media and sharing.  Since then, Metro Trains Melbourne’s Dumb Ways to Die apps have celebrated a combined 200 million downloads!

Kids and adults alike have taken to the Dumb Ways characters, but, before they grew up, these silly guys were already making mischief in all sorts of places – in kitchens, planes, trains and more!

Check out Dumb Ways JR!

Resized_DWJ_Web_Banner_Landing_Page_603x292mm_FA-01

Dumb Ways JR is a brand-new educational platform for younger kids, aged 3-7 (though older kids love it too!). Recently released, now you can be one of the first families to explore the new apps which are similar to those for older kids but without any gore.

Two new Dumb Ways JR apps are currently available on Apple and Android devices.

Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast focuses on teaching young kids about safety while cooking and encourages creativity and role-play fun. In this game, Boffo’s hungry and you’re the chef so it’s time to make him breakfast! Our 6-year old loved cooking up some delicious and not so yummy creations and watching Boffo’s reaction, from smiles and claps to grimaces when he ate a plate full of fish and toothpaste! The open-ended play gave her the chance to experiment and learn and the music kept her entertained while she waited with me for a doctor’s appointment.

IMG_9691

This game is wonderful for so many reasons! It fans the fires of your children’s imagination without being too complicated. Kids interact with the game by tapping, stirring, mixing and swiping. This really allows their own creativity to grow and flourish as they create endless food mash-ups for their silly hungry new friend. It also subtly reinforces the lessons we teach them in our own kitchens, such as how to stay safe and not get burned.

IMG_9694

Boffo’s face when the stove is turned up too high!

The second app we downloaded was Dumb Ways JR Loopy’s Train Set which was my daughter’s second favorite.

loopys

This game has two modes – Drive and Build – with three different levels in each mode, making it great for both younger and older kids. With the same adorable characters, it allows kids and families to explore how trains work, creating their own narratives as they help passengers board and exit the train. In Build mode, the children create their own tracks and can add houses, trees and animals. My daughter loved the train whistle. In fact, all the animations and sound effects are wonderful.

Both games have a For Parents button which is very helpful and insightful and both re-inforce the message of safety in a fun and engaging way.

IMG_9682

There are also two more adventures coming from Dumb Ways JR, so be on the lookout! I would tell you more, but, I don’t want to spill the beans. Besides, then, someone might trip on them. 😀

Why not download the apps now. They’re ad-free and inexpensive with no in-app purchases.

Make Family Dental Care Fun With REACH & Firefly

June 8, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 22 Comments

I participated in this sponsored campaign on behalf of Firefly®, REACH®, and One2One Network. All opinions stated are my own.

IMG_9617

Do you struggle to get your kids to brush and rinse their teeth? Are you worried about their oral health in the future? If so, you’re like most parents. The challenge is to find ways to get your kids excited about these daily routines and provide a good foundation while they are young.

My ground rules are:  Don’t put too much pressure on them and use positive reinforcement when they do brush.

Brushing your own teeth with them is also helpful as kids love to emulate their parents.

And, get them their own toothbrush and mouth rinse to make dental care fun! I suggest Firefly products. A leader in children’s oral care solutions, Firefly has recently expanded their line of toothbrushes to include even more characters and ADA-approved products. You can’t beat good clean fun at an affordable price.

IMG_9583Check out this Kylo Ren Lightsaber toothbrush from the Firefly Star Wars Collection! With character voices, memorable quotes, flashing lights and lightsaber sound effects, kids will want to conquer the dark side of cavities. The brush lights up for 60 seconds which is a great reminder to brush for one full minute on each row of teeth. You’ll find it at Walmart and Walgreens with a protective cap to keep any bacteria out.

In addition, the new Firefly Spiderman Pump Rinse, also found at Walmart, is fun, sugar and alcohol free and has a fruity melon flavor that kids love.  Because it comes with its own convenient no-mess cup, kids can dispense just the right amount and keep your sinks clean.

IMG_9638

Dental care is so important for many reasons. It also affects our overall health. But, who says brushing your teeth as an adult can’t be fun? I find that when you have the right tools, it really is enjoyable! Did you know that you should change your toothbrush every three months? It also needs to be changed every time you get over a cold! Replacing a toothbrush this often means that it’s a good idea to always have extras around.

I’ve been trying out the new REACH UltraClean and the REACH Advanced Design Toothbrushes and I’m a big fan of both! In fact, I actually enjoy alternating between the two to get what I feel is optimum care.

IMG_9592

You can find the REACH UltraClean toothbrush at Walmart and Target. With its floss-like bristles and tongue cleaner, it really leaves you with that just from the dentist smooth clean feel! You can get it in a single pack or a 4-count value pack, so you’ll always have extras for guests or to take with you on the go.

IMG_9607

The big winner for me is the REACH Advanced Design Toothbrush. It has longer outer bristles and shorter inner bristles to perfectly clean along the gum line and the plaque from each and every tooth. I really feel that I can reach way in with this brush to get the back teeth deeply clean without missing anything. This toothbrush is available at Walmart and Walgreens in a value pack of two toothbrushes.

Fall in love with Parenthood – Now on UPtv Starting 5/30!

May 30, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 23 Comments

PARENTHOOD -- Pictured: (l-r) top row; Peter Krause as Adam Braverman, Sarah Ramos as Haddie Braverman, Dax Shepard as Crosby Braverman, Lauren Graham as Sarah Braverman, Miles Heizer as Drew Holt, Sam Jaeger as Joel Graham, bottom row; Monica Potter as Kristina Braverman, Max Burkholder as Max Braverman, Craig T. Nelson as Zeek Braverman, Bonnie Bedelia as Camille Braverman, Mae Whitman as Amber Holt, Erika Christensen as Julia Braverman-Graham, Savannah Rae as Sydney Graham -- NBC Photo: Art Streiber.

“Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.” —  Brad Henry

Every once in a while, a show comes along that brilliantly touches our hearts as well as our minds. Parenthood is that rare type of show and one of the best stories about family there is. Starting on May 20, Parenthood will launch on UPtv at 8 pm with episodes running through midnight.

Now is the time to catch this heartwarming show if you haven’t seen it, or, for those who have already fallen in love with the series, to re-visit Parenthood from the beginning.

13267320_908359635949886_508398948_a

This critically acclaimed drama follows the ups and downs of the Braverman family, starting with Zeek and Camille, the matriarch and patriarch. The four adult Braverman siblings – Adam, Sarah, Crosby and Julia share the joys, trials, heartbreaks and celebrations of parenthood.

#WelcometoParenthood #THIS

052016_UPTV_PARENTHOOD_UPS_FB

From my perspective, Adam (Peter Krause) is the more responsible brother. As the oldest, he’s had to be, but, that doesn’t necessarily mean he always wants to. Sarah (Lauren Graham), is the somewhat wild child, divorced with two kids and, as the saga begins, moving back home with her parents for financial reasons. Crosby (Dax Shepard) is the third child, striving to find his place in the world who gets an unexpected surprise in the premiere. Julia (Erika Christensen), the youngest child, is a competitive lawyer, and is as much by the book as Sarah is a free spirit.

Where this all becomes fascinating to me is how their personalities blend as they grow and the categories they fit in change and overlap. With all the kids and grandkids, this large family goes through a lot of heartache and change, but the one constant is them always being there for one another.

I fell in love with this show because it is so authentic and true to life, because it isn’t afraid to explore any issue, and because of the family camaraderie. With any up or down, they join forces to either celebrate or brainstorm a plan.

One of my favorite stories involves Adam and his wife Kristina’s son, Max, who starts the series at age 9. Diagnosed with Aspergers, his is not an easy road, but, his struggles and triumphs are moving and affect the family, just as everyone’s actions affect one another.

UPtv sent us a premiere watching kit for Parenthood which is really cool!

IMG_9423 IMG_9444

A tote bag, light blanket to snuggle on the couch, tissues, wineglass and popcorn!

And, my favorite of all, this hoodie to which they added my name. I love it because when you watch The Bravermans, you really become part of the family!

parenthood

This is a show the whole family will love. There is plenty of humor mixed with the drama, wonderful stories and a stellar cast!

So grab your snack and beverage of choice and catch the premiere 5/30 at 8pm. If you want to binge watch, there will be five episodes Monday night. Check out the schedule on UPtv for more Parenthood!

Have you watched Parenthood? Who is your favorite character?
