Duck Tape from Shoplet : Both Practical and Fun – A review

March 30, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 6 Comments

About two weeks ago, I was driving with my Mom and it was unseasonably warm, so she put down her power window, and…. it wouldn’t come back up. Since it was all the way down, there was nothing we could do, nothing to try to grab or maneuver back up. Since it was a Sunday, we were out of luck, and rain was scheduled for the next day. What to do?

Well, often around here, the answer to everything is: Duct Tape. At least that’s what my brother-in-law always says. When in doubt, duct tape. So, I got a garbage bag, put it over the window, and used duct tape. Though it did rain, the car remained dry inside. So, I am a big fan and always try to keep duct tape on hand. It can solve so many problems.

And, then, coincidentally, not long after, I received a large package from Shoplet to review and in it was all kinds of Duck Tape, enough to satisfy even the geekiest office supply junkie.

Shoplet sent a swag bag of Duck Tape including Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape, Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape w// Dispenser and Zebra Printed Duck Tape.

I loved the Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape w/ Dispenser.

This tape is awesome since it was so convenient and easy to use. I could use it with one hand and it was simple to turn it to use the cutting edge. This is great for me when mailing packages as I do a lot of this. I love this tape and it’s great to keep on hand. It didn’t split or tear, just smoothly, quietly and efficiently got the job done.

Next, I checked out the Duck EZ Smart Premium Packaging Tape. This is sold in packs of three and is really quite economical. Again, very easy to use, just the right thickness. It wasn’t flimsy nor was it heavy. It was see-through and my packages looked professional. It did a great job keeping everything in place and was durable without being sticky, tacky or bunching up.

My favorite of the three, just for the sheer fun of it was the Zebra Printed Duck Tape. Look at all the cool patterns in there. It was strong and yet tore easily. I didn’t need a knife or scissors. It was durable and pretty much conforms to any surface, no matter if it’s uneven.
And then, of course, it’s great for creative projects. You can take something simple and dress it up.  Use it for crafting, use it for color-coding.

I wanted to give a friend some cookies I’d made, but I didn’t have anything interesting to put them in, so I took a regular box and “zebrified” it. You can see the inside of the box here. It was super easy to sculpt the tape along the curves and I loved the patterns it created.

You could use this tape to decorate, to add originality and flair, to instantly transform the dull into the unusual. It definitely appeals to my artistic side.

To sum it all up, I would say that the Duck Tape I was sent rocks! It really performed and looked great and I would definitely stock up on all of the above. I’ll also be scoping out the colored and patterned Duck Tapes because you never know when the creative urge will strike!

Shoplet has a great selection of office supplies and great deals, so check them out when you need something for your office or home or just want to browse.

Disclosure: Shoplet provided me with the above samples for review, however, all opinions expressed are my own.

Introducing Amanda Self

March 27, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 5 Comments

I am very pleased to be working with Amanda Self, a wonderful artist who creates beautiful jewelry with crystals and gemstones. These creations are not only lovely, but also healing, and each carries its own powerful affirmation.

I was immediately drawn to her work and since then we’ve had some wonderful conversations, about life, the universe and well… everything. Life takes you down some interesting roads and it’s a blessing to have the chance to have good friends and healing along the way.

I asked Amanda how she got started.

In her own words:

I discovered the powers of crystals in 2002 while working at Half Price Books in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During my register shifts, I noticed a significant amount of energy being exchanged between myself and the customer when we handed each other money. It was incredibly draining and a bit uncomfortable. My dear friend Fran suggested I try using crystals and gemstones for protection and took me to a rock store later in the week. The results were immediate!

Shortly after that I came across a book about Reiki and gemstones. I  had  recently received my Reiki 1 & 2 attunements and was thrilled to have found this connection. I could actually  feel the stones throbbing in my hands! It was amazing. I continued to explore and develop my abilities and about two years later, I found myself working at a crystal store in Richmond Virgina. Talk about a vortex of energies! That’s when I REALLY connected to the ancient vibrations of crystals.
My jewelry line happened instantaneously it seems. I didn’t read any how-to books or go to any classes. My deep love for crystals and a curious thought about making a necklace opened a channel of creativity, healing & spirit within me. It is my pleasure to share my beautiful creations with you!
– Amanda

Javabites – Cookies, Coffee and Chocolate Bliss – Review/Giveaway

March 26, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 178 Comments

Do any of you like cookies? Coffee? Chocolate? Silly question? I’m a huge fan of all three, so I felt triply blessed to receive a wonderful package with five flavors of Stir Crazy Creations’ Javabites and a pouch of their Organic House Blend Coffee.

Javabites are crunchy morsels of bliss. Yes, seriously. They are that good! And, to top it off, they are made with nothing but the finest natural ingredients. No artificial anything. They use organic, fair trade coffee and use a local roaster who personally visits the owner of the farm that grows these delicious beans. There is no middle man and this ensures that the coffee is of the highest quality and taste.

Their bakery is nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Loveland, Colorado where they brew their cookies and….what’s that? Brew their cookies… well, yes.

They start with organic shade-grown, coarsely ground, espresso-roasted Arabica beans. Then, these beans are blended into a specially formulated moist cookie dough. Next, they slowwwly bake the cookies allowing the espresso to thoroughly brew into each cookie. And the cookies come in latte, mocha, cappuccino and espresso flavors.

They are great for crunchy cookie lovers (me!) and can also be dipped in coffee or tea. I tried both. The Organic House blend they sent was rich yet mellow. Very very good. As you dip the cookies in, they don’t get mushy but soften just enough to melt in your mouth. So good! They are also delicious with ice cream. I crunched them up over my Vanilla Bean the other night.

How to describe the flavor? It’s like a rich coffeehouse latte. They even provide a mild kick that is great when energy flags mid-day for me. And the espresso flavor is totally authentic. Actually, these cookies are a feast for the senses, because when you open the package (individually wrapped in packs of 2 to stay fresh), the smell is like walking into a coffeehouse of delights or falling into a heap of coffee beans (what, yes, I’ve imagined it!). Also a feast for the eyes as the packaging and cookies are just beautiful; for the ears – love the crunch; for the nose – a coffee lover’s paradise; and for your tastebuds – well, you just have to try them to see how delectably good they are! Rich and full of flavor and they taste homemade.

I also love that Stir Crazy Creations is all about making a positive impact on both the community and the environment.

So, here are the different varieties that I tried and that you can check out on their website & enter to win!

White Chocolate Vanilla Latte – Crunchy White Chocolate Chip Cookies with Espresso Bits – (6 100 calorie packs)  – This is their signature cookie, buttery with hints of vanilla, these are amazingly delectable! My favorite!

Almond Mocha – for almond lovers! almond chocolatey cookie with espresso bean bits and milk chocolate chips

Chocolate Chip Espresso – the classic with a kick! Chocolate chip cookies supercharged with espresso bean bits! Not your grandmother’s chocolate chips…My sister loves these. She stole my last one.

White Chocolate Mocha Latte – A chocolate lover’s dream – chocolate mocha cookies filled with white chocolate chips w/bits of espresso beans. I have a feeling my friend Linda would be in chocolate heaven.

Cinnamon Cappuccino – My mom’s favorite as she loves cinnamon – these are like snickerdoodles – vanilla-cinnamon cookies revved up with bits of espresso beans

You can purchase Javabites at Amazon or at Javabites.

The Amazing Race

March 19, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 4 Comments

 {EAV:cdbf029683560583}

I was kind of astonished to see Brendan and Rachel on The Amazing Race this year. They were such a trainwreck on Big Brother.

But, as always, “TAR” remains my favorite reality show! Last night curling beards, curling gnomes, yodeling in Bavaria and next week they go to Azerbaijan.

I must confess I’ve always wanted to be on this show and my good friend and I have contemplated it many times. When we watch, we talk about which would do what challenge!

I love traveling and this would be a blast!

Have you ever wanted to be on a reality show? Which one? And do you watch The Amazing Race?

I’m loving Bopper and Mark from Kentucky!

Foxy lady – Foxgloves Fingerless Gloves Review & Giveaway

March 17, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 52 Comments

When you think of Foxgloves, do you think of

this?
or this?
Because I’ve found something totally foxy, totally sassy and hot! Foxgloves PDX Fingerless Gloves that you can wear for fun and fashion.
Check these out! This was the pair I got a chance to review. I love them!
Handmade in the mysterious forests of the Pacific Northwest, in Portland, Oregon to be exact, the idea was born to create comfortable and fashionable Foxgloves fingerless gloves that would instantly add flair to any outfit and make the world a little foxier.
I wore mine out last weekend and got a lot of compliments on them. They warmed my arms and hands while giving me complete freedom of movement and looked so cool under my black shirt with jeans and boots. They were so comfortable I didn’t even take them off the entire night. After a while, I forgot I had them on and they just became a part of me, a new striped interesting part. Being an artist myself, I love this wearable art that transforms the ordinary into the interesting.
These B&W ever-fashionable Stripes are from Foxgloves’ new line.
The fabric is a very wearable, soft and stretchy cotton knit and they are available in  Adult S/M, M/L and Child L.
Some other of my favorites are the White Lotus On Black.
and the Zombie In A Blender.
You can check out all the beautiful and fun styles here.
Foxgloves stocks an ever-changing variety of patterns and fabrics and most are just $12/pair. The new gloves (with the reinforced thumb openings) are $14 for the shortie/wristlets and $15 for the signature-length.
Very reasonable, I believe.
EXTRA SPECIAL OFFER for Strange Daze Indeed Readers: If you’d love to buy some cool styles for yourself or as gifts, please mention that you read about Foxgloves on my blog in their ‘Add Special Instructions to the Seller’ section when you order from their website & they will refund your shipping fee (foxy and cool!)
