Cut the Cord with Google Chromecast!

October 13, 2018 By Debra Pearlstein 11 Comments

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.

As the weather cools down, I know that we’ll be spending a lot more time indoors. I’m actually really looking forward to this and a break from rushing around.  I’m dreaming of curling up on our couch with warm blankets, a bowl of Heirloom popcorn, and a mug of Earl Grey tea, watching my favorite shows on our big screen tv.

We’ve cut the cord on cable, realizing that it didn’t fit our needs and was way too expensive. The shows we love most are often on streaming services and while we can watch them on our phones or laptop, it’s wonderful to have them on the big screen as well now.

Are you looking for a simple affordable way to stream video content straight to your TV? If so, the Google Chromecast Streaming Media player is for you. It easily plugs into your TV’s HDMI port granting you access to your favorite streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, HBO Now and others. You can also watch movies, shows, live TV, and photos streaming on your TV from all your family’s devices.

You can even give Chromecast vocal commands through Google Assistant.

Using Chromecast is simple: Plug Chromecast into the HDMI port on your TV to power and stream your favorite entertainment right from your phone with just a tap. Watch shows, listen to playlists, and more. And while streaming, you can still use your phone as you normally do.

So why not upgrade your tv now? Expand your home entertainment without buying a new TV. In fact, it’s so affordable you can get one for every TV in the house! I love mine. Enjoy!

Win $50 Paypal Cash or Amazon Gift Card – Something About Forever Book Blast #Giveaway

We’re happy to bring you another Book Blast for Something About Forever by Kimberly Loth. Please enter via Rafflecopter below for a chance to win $50 in Paypal Cash or an Amazon gift code. Best of luck!

Something About Forever by Kimberly Loth

Boys.

They are bound to be the death of me.

Especially one with blue eyes, perfectly Mormon cut hair, and probably the inspiration for the girl’s camp song “Hot Priest”.

Why the heck did he have to be the bishop’s son?

Cause here’s the thing. While I’m Mormon, I don’t really belong. I mean, I want to, but I just can’t seem to keep on the straight and narrow. Seriously, look at me. I’m not even supposed to use the name Mormon anymore, but Latter-Day Saint is a mouthful. So I’m sticking to Mormon. Sorry, Prophet.

The bishop knows my past. He knows my problems. There is no freaking way he’s going to let me date his son.

Yet, Nate comes after me anyway. And I fall hard.

But eventually….I will have to tell him about my past.

And I know, he’ll run far, far away from me when I do.

Praise for Something About Forever:

Something About Forever hit me directly in the feels. I haven’t read a book in a while that’s made me cry but this one got my tear ducts flowing. Lauren and Nate’s story is very reliable. I completely recommend this book if you haven’t read it yet! ~Brianna

Being not so perfect either, this book resonated deeply within my soul. The power of forgiveness for yourself and in giving to others can change your life. What a masterfully told story of love, acceptance, and forgiveness that is appropriate for teenagers and adults alike. ~Alie

A different genre than normal, I was totally enraptured by this tale. This author truly breathed life into these characters and captured the very essence of forgiveness and redemption. ~Patty

This book draws you in from the beginning and keeps you enthralled in Lauren and Nate’s story. It’s a real tear-jerker, so make sure the tissues are handy when you read it. It has great characters that you soon become invested in and an emotional plot that keeps you turning the pages. ~Rabid

EXCERPT

Introduction

Hi, yeah, it’s me, Lauren. I’m breaking the fourth wall. Nate would be appalled. He hates it when people do this in movies or TV shows. He won’t even watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with me for that very reason. He’s nuts, but cute, so you know, I guess it all works out in the end. Anyway, I wanted to let you in on a few things.

I have no idea why you’re here. Maybe you want to hear about my journey to find eternity. Maybe you want to know if I’ll ever speak to my dad again. Or maybe you want to know why my mother married a guy who smokes a pack a day. Or maybe you just think Nate is hot. It’s okay. I do too. (You did see Nate, right? He’s on the cover. If you missed him, or even if you didn’t, go look. Sigh. So hot.)

Now I’m all flustered. Nate does that to me.

Where was I? Oh yeah, why are you here? I bet it’s the music. I’m all famous on YouTube and you wanted to see how it all started. Snort. Yeah, that was not my fault.

Anyway, whatever your reason, I feel I must make a disclaimer. This is my story. I’m not terribly funny or clever, but I do have a lot of obscure thoughts, and I promise I will break this wall again cause there are things that must be explained.

I’m a Mormon, so if that bothers you, you might want to stop reading now. But maybe you’re curious. That brings me to my next disclaimer. I’m not a very good Mormon. So if you’ve come here expecting me to quote the prophet or recite scriptures, you’ve come to the wrong place. I mean, I don’t even go to seminary.

Let’s talk about that for a second. What teenager willingly gets up a whole hour earlier than they are supposed to every single day? Not only that, but go to a class that is basically just reading the scriptures. Talk about a snoozer. They must be insane. Certifiably—we did already establish that Nate was nuts—I can’t even stay awake during Sunday School. How do people do it every stinking day of the week? Sorry, not my thing.

I don’t remember what else I wanted to say to you. Au revoir. Enjoy my story. You’re going to be examining my every flaw and thought. I do find that rather creepy. Good thing I never have to see you again after it’s over.

Hugs and kisses. Just kidding. I’m so not a hugs and kisses kind of girl… unless you are Nate. Which you’re not, cause I would never let him read this.

I’m out.

Lauren

Treating Pain Naturally with Avacen

July 16, 2018 By Debra Pearlstein 18 Comments

As someone with fibromyalgia, I am always looking for natural ways to help with pain. Between family, friends, work, exercise, errands and volunteering, my days are pretty busy and I try to make the most of them.

Enter the Avacen 100, a unique non-invasive FDA-cleared device for arthritis, muscle and joint pain relief and muscle relaxation. When I got a chance to try it out, I was excited! I went into the experience completely unbiased and had some wonderful results.

First, let me tell you about the Avacen 100. It’s a compact, portable device that you can set up in your living room or bedroom and you can take it with you if you go on a trip as it’s not too heavy at all.

I use mine first thing when I start my day and at night before I go to bed. 15 minutes is recommended, but, you can tailor it to your individual needs. I find it very relaxing while using it, and it’s nice to have the ‘me time’, but, you could easily be on your phone or watching tv while doing it.

I love that I don’t have to go to a doctor’s office and can have a treatment at my leisure. So convenient!

I found this video to be extremely helpful for explaining how the Avacen 100 works:

I also would love to tell you some of my personal experiences.

This past winter I had a really bad fall on the ice and smashed my head on the ground. Turns out I had a concussion which took a very long time to heal. I was getting headaches every day and a tightness in the area of the injury. It also compromised my thinking.

The day that I got the Avacen, I remember I was using it and watching Jeopardy. This may sound weird, but, I could feel it opening up the stuck area of my head injury. The pain began dissipating and I felt a relaxation. I could think more clearly as well. As I went on using the Avacen, I felt my head injury heal. This, to me, was pretty miraculous. I do believe this had to do with increased oxygen and circulation to the area of injury. This was a benefit I was not expecting as I had hoped this would help with my muscle and joint pain so I was really happy. That healing has continued over a few months and I no longer have pain in this area nor headaches.

The treatments have helped me with fibromyalgia, inflammation, as well as joint and muscle pain and I find them extremely relaxing before bed which helps me to fall asleep at night. The increased circulation I feel has also helped my brain to function smoothly. I credit the Avacen also for alleviating my pain from carpal tunnel syndrome as well. As I am always writing and using my computer, this can really slow me down.

The AVACEN 100 has E.U. CE Mark Approval and Health Canada Approval for the temporary relief for arthritis, muscle and joint pain; muscle relaxation; temporary relief of widespread pain associated with fibromyalgia; and the increase of microcirculation.

The Avacen 100 is not cheap. The Consumer Device is $3,995 with a 60-day money-back guarantee, but, it can cost you less than doctor visits and expensive injections which can come with side effects. In a recent survey, 7 out of 10 Avacen users were able to stop taking their prescription drugs after they began treatments. There is also a pretty awesome lease-to-own option for $149.50/month. You can call 800-763-8116 or go to the Avacen website for more information. The customer service with them is incredible, so why not give them a call if you are interested. The commercial unit is $6,995.

Their logo says Pain Free is Freedom and I truly agree. I wish you all health and healing.

This is a partnered post with Avacen and The Chronic Illness Bloggers Network, however, all opinions here are strictly my own.

Finding The Best Car Insurance in Massachusetts Is Full of Surprises

July 10, 2018 By Debra Pearlstein 14 Comments

Trying to find the best car insurance can be a trial. We all know the big car insurance brands: State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Allstate — but after browsing those sites, I’m never sure if I’m actually getting the best deals. So this time I used Clearsurance, and what I found totally caught me by surprise. All those household brands we all see advertised so often? They aren’t ranked very highly. Clearsurance, which is a website that collects reviews from people about their insurance company, uses the data it gathers to create unbiased rankings of car insurance companies, both by state and nationally for 2018. The detailed breakdown helps you compare companies and find coverage that’s actually the best deal for your location and driving history.

So, I decided to see what companies other consumers ranked as the best car insurance options in Massachusetts and if my car insurer was rated highly by other consumers. I didn’t even recognize some of the companies that ranked ahead of the giants in car insurance, including my own insurer.

For instance, Amica Mutual, which offers a home ownership discount, was founded in 1907 and ranks as the second best company in all of Massachusetts. Amica Mutual’s 4.46 rating out of 5 on Clearsurance is significantly higher than that of Progressive (4.16) and Allstate (4.1).

Take a look at what companies are ranked as the top 5 car insurers in Massachusetts on Clearsurance:

  1. USAA — 4.68
  2. Amica Mutual Insurance Company — 4.46
  3. Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance — 4.38
  4. Plymouth Rock Assurance — 4.33
  5. Commerce Insurance (MAPFRE) — 4.33

These aren’t the names we typically associate with car insurance. So why are these brands so much better than the big companies we all know? Clearsurance has tons of great information to help you navigate your car insurance coverage, and one of the things I discovered is that companies like Geico and Allstate spend billions of dollars a year on advertisements to become the names we think of when it’s time to buy car insurance or consider switching car insurance. But those advertising dollars have come to from somewhere, and it ends up driving up the cost of our insurance premiums.

Why should we be paying more to insure our cars so that our insurer can solicit new business?

For the most part, the companies rated highly in Massachusetts are lesser known than the big names. But the bottom line is, they’re better. These are the companies that other policyholders have found offer fair prices with good customer service and claims handling.

Still, we’re not all eligible for these top insurers, and we don’t all have the same insurance needs. That’s something else Clearsurance understands and helps you navigate. For example, USAA is the best car insurance company for the people of Massachusetts, but it only serves active and former military members and their families. And at a company like Plymouth Rock Assurance, if you pay your full premium before the due date, you will receive a discount. Plus, not all car insurance companies cover high-risk drivers, so if you have a lot of accidents on your record or a DUI, you may not be able to obtain coverage from one of these companies.

Finding the best car insurance for you or your family shouldn’t have to be completely mind-boggling. Once you step outside the buzz of all those big name brands, figuring out which companies actually offer the best customer service at the best price becomes a lot easier, especially if you’ve got Clearsurance on your team.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, however all opinions are my own.

We’re delighted to bring you another fun Book Blast Giveaway! This is a perfect summer read with furry pirates, and a feisty fairy princess.

John William and the Bandits of Basswood by Elizabeth Parkinson Bellows

John William Drake was born an explorer; just like many, many Drakes before him. His adventure really began with the discovery of an old book hidden in the ceiling of the Drake home, followed by the mysterious disappearance of his father. He lived everyday in misery until his twelfth birthday. A new friend gave him an invitation he could not turn down… follow me and change your destiny.
He never imagined being captured by bandits and taken to a ship riddled with river rats was part of his fate. Not just any bandits – the Bandits of Basswood; known to be a ruthless and wild crew of thieves. Trying to escape would be a ridiculous idea. No one has ever escaped and lived to tell about it. Uncovering traces of his missing father gave him hope and upped the stakes. John William was determined to get off the ship alive and search for the missing pieces of the puzzle. The chase out of Basswood was on. He took a chance to change his destiny and ended up on a wild ride to solve the most important mystery of his life.

Praise for the Book

“The imaginative world created by the author is especially fun. Some animals can talk (with attitude!), magic is in the air and emu-like creatures provide fast transportation. Yes, I realize this series is for children- and they can certainly read it. Just as soon as I’m finished.”

“A simple walk into the world of furry and fairy alike. Enjoyed the character building, as the young boy finds himself in a world with furry pirates, and a feisty fairy princess.”

“Love this book! Great kids book!”

Excerpt

The Door in the Ceiling

John William huffed and dragged his feet over to the ladder. “I

don’t like climbing this old thing.”

“You’ll be fine. I will be right behind you with the lantern.” His

father gave him a nudge.

“Fine…” John William clutched his hands around the rails.

“Relax, son.” He rubbed John William’s white knuckled hands.

“This is just another walk in the park. You can do it.”

“Okay, let’s get this over with.” John William took one step,

then another; then he closed his eyes and climbed until his head hit the ceiling. He pounded the hatch with his fist repeatedly with no results. His father climbed up behind him.

Thud! He gave the ceiling one good hit. John William ducked his head and the hatch flew open. “Here, take the lantern.”

John William looked at his father’s excited smile. He swallowed

the lump in his throat and grabbed the lantern. A chill hit his arm the instant it moved across the threshold. He used his elbows to boost his body through before he could talk himself out of it. “It is tight up here. My head hits the top; and the smell… it reminds me of Uncle Andrew’s old tree fort.

“Yes, yes… but do you see anything?” His father huffed.

John William moved the lantern around every part of the

opening. “Aside from some scratch marks in the wood, it is completely empty – not a single trace of anything.”

“Maybe I should come up.” His father took another step up the

ladder.

“Those scratch marks – they are from a rodent, right? Like a

cute little mouse?”

“Yes, John William; don’t worry.”

John William crawled deeper in. Something in the wall caught

his eye. He narrowed his eyes. “I, I think I see something. No, it can’t be.”

“What is it?” His father blurted.

Thump! “Did you hear that?” John William gasped. He jolted the lantern around. “I’m not alone up here.” A dark shadow darted across the wall, accompanied by more thumping.

“Look out! I’m coming down!” John William stumbled through

the hatch in a frantic fit, barely getting one arm around the ladder to secure himself. The lantern hit the ground; glass shattered everywhere.

“Fire!” His father slid down the ladder and covered the

wreckage with his coat, followed by a vase full of water and flowers, extinguishing the flames.

John William perched at the top of the ladder, watching his

disappointed father catch his breath. “I’m sorry.” He closed the hatch and stepped lightly down to the floor.

“It’s okay; I was never really fond of that coat anyways.” He

paused and smiled at John William. “You did well; I’m proud of you.”

John William felt his dad’s reassuring hand ruffling his curls.

“Now can I go to bed?”

“Of course, we have an early start tomorrow… rest well.”

“Thanks, you too.” John William glanced up at the ceiling, and

shuffled out of the study.

“John William… you are certain you did not see anything?”

He paused before turning the corner. “Yes. I just heard

something. Maybe it was a rat?”

“Most likely; goodnight, son.”

John William waved and continued on. He did see something; at least he thought he did. What he saw was so peculiar it must have been his eyes playing tricks on him.

It was a small red door with a well-used brass knob set in the wall on the other end of the space where there was enough shadow to keep it out of sight… but there was no way he was going back up there tonight. His father would have to find out another time.

Author Elizabeth Bellows

Um, let’s see… when I was eight, I had a pet turkey. I used to take it with me on my very short lived paper route. Needless to say, I was terrible at delivering the paper. No one wanted a “Dollar Saver” with turkey poop splattered across the front page. Apparently that’s where the best coupons are.
Books… well, “Treasure Island” is a fantastic pirate tale. I love just about anything by Roald Dahl. I would also like to thank C.S Lewis for sending me on an unrelenting childhood quest for portals to amazing worlds (even in the most unpleasant locations, e.g… the older brother’s closet, etc…)
I love to write… these days sneaking away just to use the bathroom is hard enough. Finding a quiet moment alone with my laptop is impossible. I’ve developed a talent for making airplane noises out the side of my mouth for my son while squeezing in a paragraph or two.
I write fantasy stories for children. Yep – I am a HUGE fantasy geek. I can’t help myself! It’s too darn awesome to escape to another realm with sorcerers and wizards. The underlying theme in my stories is empowerment, self love, and living purposefully.
When football is on I turn into a different person. I may even use a curse word or two… or three. I enjoy running; which is a good thing because I need to do it in order to fit into my jeans.
I love to cook and really, really love to eat. I have a theory that avocados actually contain super powers and have the amazing ability to make any snack epic. I also love garlic… which, according to my loved ones, also has an unfortunate super power … the pungent breath-inator… or something of that nature.
Few things make me smile more than chocolate, cheese, and a good bottle of vino… AND, if the Chargers would make it to the Super Bowl again – just once:)

I think I’m in love.

I’ve always been passionate about being outdoors and sometimes I think if I could have my bedroom out there I would. I’m also passionate about entertainment, especially home theater, and love new tech!

I recently discovered the SunBriteTV – Veranda Series, a family of weatherproof televisions designed for full-shade applications. This is the best of both worlds, right? You can bring the convenience you’re used to indoors outside.

The SunBriteTV Veranda series is a family of weatherproof televisions designed for full-shade applications (like covered patios and screened-in porches): Full Shade (Veranda), Partial Sun (Signature), and Full Sun (Pro).

No more having to choose between enjoying the weather or watching the game or getting stuck inside because you want to binge watch Game of Thrones or Stranger Things. Indoor TVs don’t belong outside but SunBriteTVs are high-performance and specifically made for the outdoors and engineered for permanent outdoor installation.

SunBriteTV Veranda outdoor TVs provide durability and safety for shaded install locations, like covered patios and screened-in porches. Veranda comes standard with a premium direct-lit 4K UHD screen, is brighter than typical indoor televisions and includes built-in down-firing speakers.

Imagine watching your favorite movie with the entire family outside, a romantic evening with your significant other,  or having all your friends over to watch the game! Such a great gift idea for Father’s Day!

Outdoor living trends are strong, and all-weather TVs can really enhance the outdoor lifestyle. In fact, creating an outdoor home theater is the most affordable room addition you can make, and the best seat in the house is in your backyard!
