Numi Organic Tea Review

March 8, 2012 By Debra Pearlstein 1 Comment

A brother and sister, an alchemist and an artist – these are the founders of Numi tea. Created in 1999 in a tiny apartment in Oakland CA, inspired by both art and exotic teas, Numi has grown to be a company whose hallmark is high quality organic and Fair Trade Certified teas and herbal teasans with 100% natural ingredients.

I am a strong believer in Fair Trade, in products that give back, that help create a sustainable environment and that help support their workers with fair practices.
Numi boxes are made with 100% recycled material and a minimum of 85% post-consumer waste. Their tea bags are biodegradable and compostable. That’s pretty impressive to me.

I’m also a lover of fine teas. So, it was a pleasure when, as a Shoplet blogger, I was sent Numi tea to review.
Now, heretofore, I didn’t know Shoplet carried coffees and teas. When I think of them, my first image is  office supplies. But, of course, people have breaks when they are working, whether at the office or at home, and Numi provides a wonderful break!
Numi uses pure, 100% natural and Organic Certified ingredients. They use premium teas and herbs with fruits, flowers and spices – no tea dust or tannings.

I received a box that had beautiful art on it and which contained 8 individually wrapped teabags:
Numi Organic Tea: Orange Spice
Numi Organic Tea: Moroccan Mint
Numi Organic Tea: Chamomile Lemon
Numi Organic Tea: Gunpowder Green
Numi Organic Tea: Jasmine Green
Numi Organic Tea: Aged Earl Grey
Numi Organic Tea: Breakfast Blend
Over the course of a few days, I had a chance to try them out.
First, I tried the Numi Orange Spice Tea. I remember, growing up, we used to make pomanders by sticking cloves into oranges and I still remember the smell. Perhaps, like Proust’s Madeleine, just the scent brings me back to my childhood and making crafts with my Mom.

Orange Spice is one of my favorite flavors of tea. The Numi blend has organic white tea, real orange peel and spice.  This blend was milder than those I am used to, but I enjoyed the delicate and subtle flavor. I loved the citrus and spice in perfect harmony.

Second, I tried the Numi Chamomile Lemon Tea before bed. Very relaxing. This tea is a blend of Egyptian chamomile blossoms and Australian lemon myrtle leaves.  Mildly sweet and flowery, a cup before bed was soothing.

Third, and my favorite, was the Numi Moroccan Mint Tea.  The organic mint used is known as “nana mint” and is found in North Africa. This blend had a wonderful aroma and I found myself taking in the scent as I drank it. With its mild spearmint taste that pleased my senses, this is one I will be drinking as iced tea this summer. I really enjoyed it.

Disclosure: The above-mentioned teas were sent for review by Shoplet.com but all the opinions herein are my own.

This tea sounds great. I am not a coffee drinker, but I do love my tea.
