Car Repair During the Coronavirus Pandemic

March 25, 2020 By Debra Pearlstein Leave a Comment

Although the world is temporarily shut down during this Pandemic, there are still essential items needed including medication, groceries and healthcare. This is a good time to ensure that your vehicle is running smoothly and that you have enough gas. I, personally, have a horrible record of my car not starting or needing repair at the most unfortunate times.

This winter, with freezing temps, my car which has served me well for many years, would intermittently not start. Usually just a jump start was required, but, of course, there are always the times that it is something more and you want someone qualified to be there for repairs.

I recently discovered RepairSmith and have been learning a great deal from their blog. Just click here to find some enlightening articles, especially in this difficult time.

RepairSmith is one of the easiest ways to repair and maintain your car. They offer upfront pricing, online booking, text and phone support, and a service warranty. And honestly, the best part during this right now with the COVID-19 Pandemic is that their expert mechanics come to you.

I love the idea of mobile mechanics as it is convenient and safer during these times. During the Coronavirus outbreak, RepairSmith has put no-contact precautions into place with their technicians via their ‘No-Contact Car Repair’ policy. If you schedule a repair with RepairSmith, their technicians will avoid direct contact during the appointment to ensure your safety as well as their own. You can leave your keys for them in a convenient location and handle all communication with them through your phone, including payment. I find that very comforting and reassuring as well as incredible easy.

Additionally, their technicians will disinfect all high-touch surfaces in your car such as door handles and side panels, as well as all highly-used tools and equipment.

If you need help with your car, please do check out the RepairSmithBlog – Your one stop for all things car-related.

As we all know, practicing good hygiene and safety precautions are crucial during this time. If you have to drive somewhere, make sure you’re doing so responsibly. If you go to the grocery store, wipe down the cart before you use it and practice social distancing as much as you possibly can. We all know that may not be easy in the drugstore or market, but, taking precautions and disinfecting, then later handwashing when you can, will help as well as giving you peace of mind which is so important.

Remaining calm in these times is not easy, however, stress really depletes the immune system and leaves us more open to infection. This applies at any time, and, even moreso during this COVID-19 Pandemic. We really need to take care of ourselves and those we love. Do your best to connect via phone call, text, Skype or FaceTime. Just checking in with a neighbor, friend or family member can offer much needed support. Try your best to stay hydrated and get enough sleep as sleep is so important for our health.

Please stay safe, my friends. We’re all in this together.

Tips On Buying Your Perfect Car

I remember buying my first car. I was unsure of a lot of things, and though it was adequate, it really wasn’t the perfect car for me. Since that time,  I’ve  learned a lot which made negotiating for and buying my next car, which was perfect for me, so much easier.

Here are Some Tips I’ve Learned:

Do Your Research:

Like any important investment, don’t rush into it. There are so many wonderful resources out there to help you make an informed decision. I love Cars.com They have a very helpful Videos and Reviews section with clear and honest information. You can also find the skinny on local dealerships and what your current car is worth.

Online research helps put you in control. In the past, consumers relied heavily on the visit to the dealer to learn more about a car. Today, with online sources and mobile phones putting so much information at our fingertips, you can feel educated and confident before you ever set foot in a dealership.

Knowledge is power.

Another quick tip: A great idea to get some cash to put towards your new vehicle is selling your old or damaged car online.

Take a Test Drive:

Before you buy any car, make sure to take it on a test drive, long enough to really get a feel for it. Make sure you are comfortable. Try all the controls, adjust the seats. If you have children, bring them along on the test drive. If you are buying a used car, get it checked over by a trusted mechanic. You don’t want to be stuck with someone’s hidden problems.

Don’t Make An Impulse Decision

Although it is tempting to buy immediately, take time to research the make, model and style of the vehicle, review insurance rates and financing and, if possible, get a second opinion. You may want all the add-ons, but, some, like a portable GPS unit or stereo system, can be purchased much cheaper online and at a better quality than a built-in one.

Know When To Shop for a New Car

Weekdays are better than busy weekends. The end of the month is better than mid-month as salesmen may be trying to squeeze in a few more sales for monthly totals. The end of December is a good time as people are focusing on Christmas and the dealerships aren’t very busy, motivating them to give you a good price to help with year end sales records. Another good time to buy is July-October when dealerships are clearing space for the new models.

Don’t be in a hurry. Don’t rush into it. Ultimately, the best time to buy a new car is before you need one.
