$50 Paypal or Amazon GC Giveaway – The Rise of Miss Notley Book Blast!

February 24, 2017 By Debra Pearlstein 1 Comment

The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson

As Miss Coralynn Notley’s father barters her off to the first titled gentleman to come along, she soon realizes she must leave her home or be forced to wed a horrible man. Desperate, she applies for the position of housekeeper at Tanglewood Manor, the home of the handsome Mr. Jonathan Ludlow. The moment Jonathan sees Miss Notley, he is intrigued. She is far too young and inexperienced, yet there is something about her that that inspires a certain hope within him. Does he dare offer her the position of housekeeper or will doing so result in catastrophe?

Excerpt

Cora nodded and followed Mr. Ludlow into the parlor. He closed the doors and stood in front of them with his arms folded, looking far more intimidating than he had during their last meeting. He said nothing, merely lifted an inquiring eyebrow and waited.
Caught unprepared, Cora stared at him, trying to organize her thoughts into words. After a few moments of awkward silence, he lost patience. “What is it you wished to speak with me about, Mrs. Notley? Or are we to stand here staring at each other all afternoon?”
Not knowing how else to begin, Cora blurted, “Why have you hired me, sir?”
He blinked a few times before frowning. “I believe I have made that perfectly clear. You are to be the housekeeper, are you not?”
This was going to be more difficult than she had imagined. “Yes, of course, but there has been some talk about, or rather concerns expressed . . .” How did one put this delicately?
“About . . .?” he prodded, obviously not thrilled that his morning regime had been waylaid.
“About the reasons I have been offered the position,” she quickly said, hoping that would be enough to make him understand her meaning.
Unfortunately, his brows drew together in confusion. “What are you saying, Mrs. Notley? I have hired you to do certain duties that will hopefully make my household run more smoothly. What other reason could I possibly have for offering you the position?”
“You have hired me to do a job I am untrained to do,” she said. “While I am grateful for the opportunity, I also find it necessary to clarify that I have come here to be a housekeeper and only a housekeeper. Even though I am young and . . .” Her voice drifted off. Had she almost referred to herself as pretty? Goodness, this was proving to be very awkward indeed.
“Beautiful?” he finally guessed, not looking at all pleased with the direction the conversation was taking.
“I was going to say not repulsive,” she fibbed.
“Very well,” he said. “Even though you are young and not repulsive . . .” He moved his hand in a circular gesture, urging her to finish her thought.
Cora straightened her shoulders and forced herself to continue. “I am not the sort of girl who would ever . . . fraternize with her employer.” Her face infused with heat, but she forced her gaze to remain steady.
“I see.” He walked slowly towards her, rubbing his chin with his hand. A few steps away, he stopped and eyed her quizzically. “Have I made any improper advances towards you?”
“No, sir.”
“Have I spoken to you in an unprofessional manner?”
“No.”
“Have I looked at you in a way that has made you feel uncomfortable?”
“No.” Cora suddenly wished she had not felt the need to clarify anything. He made her feel as though she had put the cart before the horse when what she had been trying to do was see that the cart and horse simply stayed in their proper places. Was that so wrong?
“Might I ask who, exactly, has led you to believe that I am the sort of man capable of—how did you put it? Fraternizing with my help?”
“I, er, would rather not say, sir.” Though Cora felt no loyalty towards Sally, she refused to bring Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd’s names into the conversation. “I did not mean to besmirch your name or cause any offense, Mr. Ludlow. I merely wanted to make my feelings on the matter clear.”
“And you have.”
“Good.” Cora dropped into a quick curtsy, anxious to get away. “I shall go and find Watts now.”
She was almost to the door when his voice stopped her. “Once again, you are attempting to scuttle away before we have completed our conversation.”
Slowly, she turned around and lifted her eyes to his. “I never scuttle, sir.”
“What would you call that rapid walk of yours?”
“A rapid walk.”

Excerpt

Grabbing my purse, I hurried out of the car and locked the doors. Just as I started to walk up the driveway, I felt the cold steel of a muzzle against my neck. My heart hammered against my ribs.
“One sound, and you’re dead,” a harsh, male voice said.
I froze in panic as somebody slipped a black blindfold over my eyes, then gagged me. A man duct-taped my mouth, while another tied my ankles, legs, and wrists with rope. He hoisted me over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry, and horror ripped through me. Help! I’m being kidnapped! my brain yelled, but I dare not cry out for fear of what they would do to me. I did try to fight back, at least to some degree, but I was tied and gagged and could do little about being manhandled.
“Put her in the trunk!” a man yelled.
As I fought, I was thrown, neck-first, into the trunk of a car, and my mind began to race. This can’t be happening! I tried to call out for my parents. If only they could hear me. If only I could scream, maybe Max would bark, and Mom or Dad would come to the door. If only…
Tires screeched, and the vehicle took off down the street. The smell of gasoline made me gag. I tried to kick and scream, but it was tight quarters, and I was still all tied up. I cringed at their muffled voices, wondering what they wanted from me.
“I’m tellin’ ya,” one of the guys said, “we oughtta just kill her now.”
My skin crawled at his nonchalance.
“He’s right,” the other said. “Just do it, right here, right now. We’ve outsmarted her protectors, but for how long? We need to do it swiftly and quickly, before they return.”
“You know the rules,” a low voice hissed. “If we just kill her, they’ll have the legal right to choose another, and we’ll be right back at square one again. We’ve gotta do this by the book.”
“I agree,” a woman said. “We need to stop the Millennium ceremony from happening.”
“I don’t want to kill her,” another woman said. “She’s just…an innocent victim in all this. It isn’t right.”
“If we don’t kill her, they’ll win,” another said. “They’ll gain the upper hand when she gives them what they need.”
“Our enemy will stop at nothing to destroy us,” another said tensely. “Killing her will keep them from becoming more powerful than they already are.”
“It will bring them to their knees!” another shouted.
Great, I thought. A case of mistaken identity is the last thing I need. By their talk, I assumed that killing me was some way to get back at their rivals, though I had no idea who those rivals were. The mafia? Some kind of…street gang? I had absolutely no idea, but I desperately wanted to tell them who I really was, to let them know they obviously had me confused me with somebody else. Maybe if I explain that, they’ll let me go. After all, I hadn’t seen their faces, so I wasn’t a threat. Then it dawned on me: Jesse had just revealed his identity to me. Maybe his clan wants to kill me because I know too much. I wanted to scream at them and tell them, to assure them that I’d never reveal Jesse’s identity, that I’d take his deep, dark secret to the grave with me. Jesse meant everything to me, and I would never betray his trust like that; unfortunately, my captors didn’t give me a chance to explain that to them. I wasn’t completely sure if it was vampires that had me. But they had heard me messing with my ropes and that took Immortal hearing. No human could hear that over the sound of the engine, the radio, and voices talking.

Potty Training is Easier with #PampersEasyUps and a Giveaway!

September 23, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 51 Comments

This post and the accompanying giveaway were made possible by iConnect and Pampers Easy Ups. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

pampers-easy-ups-logo

Although potty training is a wonderful milestone for toddlers and parents, it can also be very stressful! But, fear not! We have some help for you. Often, potty training can seem overwhelming and when minor leaks or accidents occur, it can feel like a a disappointment. Luckily, Pampers Easy Ups help makes this journey a little easier by providing wonderful leak protection!

package

We tried everything in the quest for the perfect way to potty train, but, the truth is, there is no perfect way. It’s good to tailor your program to your children and your particular style of parenting. Some tips that worked for us are reading to the kids on the potty to take their mind off focusing too hard on the task at hand as well as putting their books in a basket nearby so they want to stay longer.

We had rewards like their favorite m&m’s, gummy bears, bubbles or stickers as they progressed. Special achievements included a trip to the toy store or an ice cream sundae. We had books specifically about potty training and we limited night time liquids.

While these all worked to some extent, I really feel that the most successful method is support and encouragement as well as minimizing failures. Make the process fun not stressful. Show your children love and they will get there when it’s time for them.

Training pants support the diaper-to-underwear transition for toddlers and their families as they have a more underwear-like look and feel while still helping to keep messes off clothing, bedding and other surfaces no matter where accidents happen: at home, on-the-go or overnight. New and improved Pampers Easy Ups work during the day AND night, enabling toddlers and moms to confidently and completely transition from diapers to underwear. Now, that’s something for kids and moms to get excited about!

Little ones will think it’s underwear, but you’ll know it’s Pampers.

Pampers Easy Ups have a 360° stretchy waistband for an underwear-like fit that’s easy for your toddler to pull up and down by themselves and they’re super soft, like cotton underwear, to keep your toddler comfortable. They also tear easily at the sides just in case it’s needed and dual leak-guard barriers around the legs prevent any leaks that can happen when your little ones are on the move.

Refresh your Home with a Fall Reset and Giveaway

September 19, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 78 Comments

This review was made possible by iConnect Influencer Management, Febreze and Swiffer. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

img_1406

After a particularly hot summer, I’m a big fan of the cooler temps and rain we had today. Outside, the world felt clean and refreshed which inspired me to bring that sense of renewal into my home.

Fall is a great time for a reset – taking care of the little things you may have overlooked in the excitement of summer. With jobs and back-to-school, it’s a wonderful time to re-organize. This will also put you on track for the upcoming holiday season which can get chaotic.

Here are some tips!

I love to start in my kitchen. I cook a lot more in the Fall and Winter and a clean kitchen inspires my creativity!

Start with the fridge. It can get cluttered and may even be the source of some unidentifiable stink! Take out all the food and drinks so you can really get in there. Take out shelves and drawers and soak them in dish soap and warm water. Wipe the inside with a similar solution and use baking soda for stains. Replace the food that’s good and toss out the questionable. Remember, fresh start!

Clean out your cabinets. Give them a good wash and replace liners. Get rid of anything old and re-organize!

Clean out your closets. Start with the front hall one and work your way up!

Don’t forget your floors!

Did you know that today’s consumer has more hardwood in their home than ever before? An estimated four billion square feet of hard surface flooring will be installed in American homes this year. Finished wood and laminates give your home a wonderful ambience and they are easy to care for. I like to use Swiffer’s newly reformulated WetJet. It’s simple and really spruces up your rooms since the absorb and lock strip helps trap dirt and grime deep in the pad.

img_1434

New season. Time to clear out old smells!

Your home goes through a lot in the summer, whether from the muggy heat or the AC blasting and windows shut tight. Of course your pets and kids’ parties, family movie and pizza nights all contribute. Febreze Fabric Refresher helps gets the inside of your home as crisp as the Fall weather outside. It eliminates musty odors from your closets and pet smells from your couch.  You can also use the new Febreze Air Effects with Big Sur Scent to get rid of any lingering food odors from burnt popcorn or last night’s fish. I found this new scent to be very pleasant,  light and fresh with notes of jasmine and cherry.

img_1431

Give Your Car the Once-over. Febreze car clips refresh your vehicle after a summer of baseball practices, camping trips and food grabbed on the go. To avoid clutter and spills, use a collapsible car organizer in the back seat for toys, water, juice boxes and snacks for your munchkins. (PS: There’s one in the giveaway below!)

Renewing your home renews your spirit, motivates and inspires. Your family will love you for it and you’ll fall in love with your home again!

img_1376

One lucky reader of Strange Daze Indeed will win their own Fall Reset package including everything I received (pictured above). This includes a beautiful throw, a car organizer, a Swiffer Wet Jet Mop Kit,  Febreze Air Effects and Fabric Refresher in the new Big Sur scent and more. Simply enter via Giveaway Tools below.

Ways to Spice up Your Date Night – and a Novel Erotics Giveaway

September 4, 2016 By Debra Pearlstein 13 Comments

This review and giveaway were made possible by iConnect Influencer Management and Novel Erotics. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, however, all opinions are 100% my own.

IMG_0958

Remember how exciting those first days of dating were, the rush of adrenaline and sense of adventure? Over time, that feeling can get eclipsed by car payments, mortgages, kids’ homework, making dinners and doing mountains of laundry.

So what’s a couple to do?

There are many ways to spice up your love life whether you are married or have been in a committed relationship for a while.

Set aside date nights that are just for the two of you. Make time. A relationship is a growing entity that needs nurturing and renewal. Sensuality contributes to general wellbeing, feeling attractive and confident.

You can go out for your favorite dinner or order in. Choose something you don’t eat every day, whether it be your favorite Thai soup or steak and crab legs.

IMG_1073

Don’t underestimate the power of darkness. It heightens all your other senses. So, take advantage of that with a blindfold or lights out. Use aromatherapy and oil and really enjoy sharing massages, whether giving or receiving. If you’re giving, feel your partner’s skin on your fingertips. If you’re receiving, really feel their fingertips on your skin. Take your time and just be in the moment.

Certain foods are aphrodisiacs: basil, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, avocados, chili peppers, honey, coconut water, asparagus, chocolate, red wine, pomegranates. Try these alone or combine a few. Spiced chai is a good choice!

Personally, I love red wine with chocolates. IMG_0889

Have some tiramisu or sorbet and lick it off your partner’s warm skin. If you enjoy wine, a glass will help you relax without putting you to sleep.

If your partner is out or working during the day, text them evocative messages that will spark their interest or slip a love note in a pocket or purse.

Another great idea is a gift from Novel Erotics. Novel Erotics was founded in 2015, after observing the fascination with the 50 Shades of Grey Series. Based in the New Orleans metro area, they know about having fun, so they had some great ideas for introducing novices to some interesting products and fantasies. Being parents themselves, they also know it can be hard to hide erotic items from ‘inquisitive eyes’.

With all this in mind, they designed a discreet, book-style storage box, each with a spicy story on the inside cover, and 5-6 items to make the fantasy your own. Themes range from Hotel Affairs to a creative twist on Teatime. There is also “Something Blue” – a box which is a fun, classy gift for the bachelorette.

Novel-Erotics_Stacked (1)Novel Erotics sent me one of their bestsellers, The Rendezvous. The story inside the front cover will get your imagination going, and there are lots of fun treats inside including two sex toys. There is also a soft black and lilac blindfold and an Earthly Body ‘Naked In the Woods’ Massage Candle.candle-nakedwoods_NEW-324e4i5xhqw3uakqrftix6

Specially formulated to melt at just three degrees above body temperature, this candle with six natural oils is perfect for soft sensual massage.

I think this is the perfect set to start with, but, you can browse the others here and find the one that’s perfect for you! Not to worry, shipping is always discreet.

Now that I’ve piqued your interest (!), Novel Erotics has generously offered my readers a chance to win their own adventure. One of you will win your own Rendezvous set! Just enter via Giveaway Tools Below. Open to US readers, 18+.

Alway You

Always You by Ruth Roberts

After a tragedy, Diana Mathison finds herself back in her old home town of Magnolia Falls, sharing custody of her baby sister with her step sister. Still reeling from the death of their parents, the three sisters have to learn how to lean on each other and live life without their two pillars of strength. Diana is full of doubts in her ability to raise a little girl and run her father’s law firm. The last thing she needs is to have Zack Connelly back in her life. The last time she let him in she ended up hurt and broken hearted.

Zack has given up on true love. It’s not for him and it’s certainly not with Diana Mathison. He came back to Magnolia Falls to heal after losing his sweet wife and their unborn child at the hands of a drunk driver. Hannah never had a chance at the love and happiness she deserved, therefore neither should he. His life plan is to take care of his sister and niece for as long as they need him, and to be the best veterinarian the town has ever had. That’s enough for him…or is it?

Excerpt

After dinner Zack took her to the falls. There was a long bridge crossing the water. They used to go there all the time as kids. That bridge was where Zack had asked her to Prom. The sound of water falling into the pool of water surrounded them. The moonlight reflected off the water. The night was slightly cool. Zack held her hand as they walked across the bridge. “Do you remember coming here during the summer? We would spend all day in the water,” said Zack.

“What I remember was my preteen antics to get you to notice me.” Diana almost winced remembering all her crazy antics.

“Oh, I noticed, but you were my sister’s best friend. My twin sister. I would have violated the twin code.”

“The twin code, huh. I’ve never heard of it.”

“That’s because only twins know what the twin code is.”

“Right. You know what I think Mr. Connelly? I think the twin code is non-existent.”

There was a breeze, and Diana shivered. Zack stopped them in the center of the bridge. He wrapped his arms around her. “Better?” He asked. Always the gentleman.

“Much,” Diana said. She laid her head on his chest and listened to the steady beat of his heart. In Zack’s arms she could almost forget all the pain and loss she had experienced. He made things right in a world that had gone so very wrong.

“Diana,” he said her name softly as his hand stroked up and down her back.

She lifted her head to look into his eyes. “Yes.”

“Today. That kiss. I’ve been waiting a long time to do that. Now that I have, I don’t think I ever want to stop.” He lowered his head to hers slowly, looking into her eyes. Giving her time to stop him. She leaned up on her tiptoes and met him halfway. When their lips met, it was with tenderness and love cultivated over a lifetime of friendship and shared experiences. This kiss was between two hearts that had long yearned for this very moment. The moment when two hearts would become forever linked as one.
