As the weather cools and summer winds down, we move on to the next phase, Back To School!

New clothes, backpacks, notebooks and pens are all ready to go, but, as we know, school lunches are a daily chore.

Here are some tips to make your lunchmaking easier!

  1. Don’t wait till the last minute. Use a whiteboard or planner and jot down ideas ahead of time for the week.
  2. Make school lunch shopping lists with your kids so you have what you need at hand.
  3. Make lunches the night before so you have one less worry in the morning.
  4. Get your kids involved. Give them healthy choices, for example, tuna sandwich or PB&J, hummus with pretzels or veggies. Let them plan with you.
  5. Don’t pack things you want your kids to eat; pack things you know they like.
  6. I like to add spontaneous surprises – organic gummy bears, a handwritten note, chocolate yogurt covered raisins. Something unexpected.

Here are some of our favorites: Cut up pita triangles with hummus, leftover mac and cheese or pasta salad, chicken quesadillas, turkey wrap with coleslaw, apple slices with almond butter, chips and salsa, watermelon wedges and berries, sliced cucumber and carrot sticks with ranch dressing.

This year, we are really into the new Yogurt Multipacks which I picked up this weekend at Walmart.

They are  superslim so they fit easily in the fridge and have a newly designed easy-open top which allows you to see how many of each flavor are left.

My kids and I both love the Harvest Peach and Strawberry flavors.  I love that you can get two flavors in each multipack. They also come in Strawberry/Orange, Strawberry/Banana, and Strawberry/Mixed Berry. They are perfect for school lunches!

Guess what?  I grab them for my own lunches too when I’m headed out the door! So smooth and delicious!

My son gets school lunch every day, but I make my lunch the night before. I can’t even function if my lunch isn’t made the evening before I go to work

Great ideas. Packing lunches was always a chore for me when my girls were in school. I do not miss those days.

Thanks for the lunch prepping tips. I don’t have kids but I often take lunches with when I’m traveling.

My favorite tip is preparing lunches the night before. It’s the best thing I do to prep for their morning.

I used to do sandwiches or salads, something similar to those 2, just because it was easier to eat when lunch time rolled around. I love the Yoplait yogurt though, it’s a staple in my lunch box as an adult!

Yoplait is in my sons lunch almost daily. He loves a lot of the flavors and it is easy to pack in his lunch.

These tips are fantastic! This school year I’m only packing a couple of snacks for my son because he eats lunch at the cafeteria now.

Excellent tips! My kids eat/drink yogurts everyday, we don’t usually pack them for school lunch but it’s a must-have snack for my kids on the road.

My packing lunches are for my guys going to work but I’m always packing snacks for road trips or even a day at the flea market. I like some healthier alternatives and not spending the money on expensive stuff.
